Netbook Reflection 2012

The last two terms that have passed this year were really exciting because our class used netbooks. The netbooks helped us to Learn,Create and Share.

Our class made an ebook based on our school trip to the zoo. We were studying about the features of animals. When we finished making our ebooks we met the children from Rooms 1 and 2 and shared our story with them. I think that using the netbook makes learning fun instead of writing in a book. The netbook has help me with my writing and maths and all my other subjects.  

My netbook has helped me focus on my learning. Next year my goal is to continue improving my writing on my blog.

Reading with littlies

Early this week I made ebook based on the external features of animals from our school trip. Our topic was based on external features on animals.The easy part was inserting all the pictures. The difficult part was finding simple words. If I could improve my writing I would try and use words that the children can read.

The Big Day

WALT: write a story in sequence.

The massive day had arrived, for John to jump 40 kilometers from outer space. He felt so frightened.


When John entered the control room all you could hear was a big boom.  Mission control  told John to put on his suit so that his blood doesn’t boil when he lands on earth. John was praying that he will have a safe and successful landing, and prayed that he doesn’t come zooming down from space dead. After he said his prayer he entered the capsule. The people in the control told him that he will be leaving in five minutes.   


It was time for John to do the scariest thing in his whole life. The countdown had started, 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 and boom, fire went blasting out of the capsule like the a cheetah at full speed. Then all of a sudden, he saw this amazing thing from space. He was waiting for Mission control to tell him to jump. Mission control said to John “Are you ready?”. “Yes” said John. They said jump, so he did. He went diving down through space like a jet out of control. Something went wrong and he could feel it. The parachute had not opened. He tried and tried but it still didn’t open.


John looked at his parachute but the parachute wasn’t working because it was jammed onto the handle. John unjammed the parachute He pulled it and finally it worked. He was coming down very slowly. It took him a few minutes but he landed safely and didn’t come back dead. When he was on ground he cried tears of joy.


When John came back to the Mission control room there was a big surprise and everyone was going completely nuts. John will remember this moment for the rest of his life. The End

Survey and Report

What is your Favourite Fast Food?

Last month I took a survey around to the Glen Innes teachers and children and found out what is their favourite fast food?
I personally took the survey sheet to the teachers and to the children in room 7,8,9,11 and room 12. Fifty people at Glen Innes were surveyed.

I used excel to draw my 3D column graph.

The result showed that the most populr fast food that the children and teachers liked was pizza. The least favourite fast food that the children and teachers liked was the pies.

I think that the teachers and children liked pizza because it was the most healthy.

Technology

Technology

Every Mondays, the year 7 students go to Tamaki College for technology.

We did different subjects in technology for 10 weeks. Presently we are doing hard materials using a housing joint with wood. We do hard materials inside a workshop. When we arrive at Tamaki College, our woodwork teacher, Mr Grundy gives us our books. Inside the workshop, there are three rules. The rules are, no fiddling, stools underneath the table when you’re not sitting on it, and wear closed shoes.When we get our books, we sketch five ideas. When you’re finished you choose a sketch out of all the sketches we drew. Then we show our sketch to Mr Grundy to make sure it’s alright.

Hard materials is a fun and exciting subject. I am making a Ute with no wheels but it can fly. The part that I really liked about the woodwork, is when you get to draw the five sketches.

Healthy Choices

Letter to Chris Woods

Dear Chris Wood


Thank you for providing healthy sandwich fillings to Glen Innes School. We really appreciate it. The filling that I enjoyed and that was the most delicious was the ham. I have been in Glen Innes School for 8 years and no other supermarket has provided sandwich fillings for our school. This is the first time that a supermarket has provided sandwich fillings to our school, which is amazing.

Thanks again, Chris for giving us sandwich fillings. We hope that you'll give us more healthy vegetables so we can make more healthy sandwiches.

Thanks A Lot


Dear Mum

Thank you so much for paying for the netbook. It was very worth it. The netbook will help me towards my learning at school.

When I do writing at school it helps me get stronger words for writing. It will help me increase my typing speed. It will also correct my writing if I spell it incorrect. This will help a lot with my speeches.

In maths, it will help me learn more word strategies which is difficult for me in class. I can find some math websites to do more work on.   

From now and on I will take care of  it everywhere I go. I really appreciate this gift.
